For our new work at INCA we purchased on the internet a hand painted "old masters" photo backdrop and a customized do-it-yourself trophy kit. Victory trophies transferred from actual body parts such as skulls or hands to symbols such as cups, crowns and balls. Today's trophies are inflated to include mundane business and sport victories. The practice of taking body parts as spoils of war is nearly universal. Determining who is an enemy, and thus a potential trophy, is a complicated sociological construction. In pre-colonial America, for example, groups who spoke the same language often formed alliances with one another in order to attack the "scalpables", those who did not speak the same language.
